How to choose the right coat?
Coats for women have become an indispensable element of a modern wardrobe. What to do to look stylish, elegant, and the coat emphasized our strengths? First of all, remember that size and height are the basic determinants of choosing a coat. However, the type of our figure is also very important, which translates into the laying of the coat. That is why it is worth taking a moment to choose the right cut. If you are not sure what your figure type check out our the article “Silhouette and style – what will you look good in”, which will explain everything.
Coats for women with an hourglass figure
Parts of the body most often adopting the proportion of 2 x 1 x 1.5 forming an “X” shape – broad shoulders, narrow waist and wide hips are characteristic features of the “hourglass” type. Such people will look best in long and medium-length coats with a belt or with a single-breasted fastening. Such a model will emphasize the indentation at the waist, which is the greatest advantage of women with an hourglass figure. It is worth avoiding accessories at the height of the bust to maintain the balance of the figure.
Coats for pear shaped ladies
A type of figure called the “triangle”, characterized by wide hips and smaller shoulders. Coats that optically enlarge the bust are recommended for these ladies. Coats with a wide collar and shoulder pads equalize the proportions of the “pear” body, and chest pockets or epaulettes on the shoulders will optically enlarge the bust. It is worth avoiding long coats that can caricaturally emphasize curves. People with a “pear” figure will look good in both a straight coat and a coat tied at the waist.
Coats for ladies with a swimmer figure
What about women with the “Y” body type, commonly known as the “swimmer” figure? This type has broad shoulders, medium-sized bust and a long waist. This is the opposite of the “triangle” described above. When choosing a coat for “Y” ladies, focus on the optical enlargement of the hips to maintain the symmetry of the body. Here, long coats and coats in the letter “A” will be perfect. As in the case of the “hourglass”, elements such as chest pockets should be avoided so as not to “exaggerate” the natural shapes of the figure. Both coats with and without a belt will suit this type of figure.
Coats for ladies with an apple figure
The type of figure referred to as “oval” or “apple”, is characterized by full breasts and belly, flat lower part, and shapely legs. Ladies “apple” should choose oversize or slightly waisted coats. Ladies with an “oval” silhouette will be perfect for medium-length coats that will expose their greatest asset – legs. In addition, coats with a V-shaped neckline will optically lengthen the neck and even out the proportions of the body. When choosing waisted coats, remember that the belt will unfortunately disturb the proportional appearance of the figure.
Coats for ladies with a rectangular figure
This is the so-called “boyish” figure, often interchangeably referred to as the “H” figure. It is characterized by a similar circumference of the shoulders, bust, waist and hips. The length of the coat in this case is strongly dependent on height, but it is worth to expose the legs, which is why the length “up to the knee” is recommended. Such a figure can be exposed to the hourglass figure by using cuts at the waist and even expansion of the volume at the height of the shoulders and hips. Tailored coats with a belt and additional elements will work well. This figure can also be exposed in the same way as an inverted triangle – giving “fluffy” at the height of the hips. Oversize coats and those in the letter “A” are not recommended due to the “boxy” appearance and hiding the proportions that need to be brought out.
In addition to matching the coat to the type of figure, when choosing a coat, you should also remember that the material fits well and does not wrinkle (especially around the armpits and on the back). It should be remembered that the stiff material holds the cut very well, but it will add a few centimeters to the silhouette.
Attention! an ill-fitting coat will look unsightly and give the impression of an improperly selected one.
In turn, a properly selected coat will not only be comfortable, but also add elegance and style
